Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) did not only make 70 - 100 times a day Istighfar and Taubah, but enjoined the Muslims to ask Allah SWT frequently for forgiveness as well. One of the many virtues of Istighfaar, that can be found in Ahadith, is that Allah SWT deals with the person engaging much in Istighfaar in a similar way like to the servant attaining Taqwa.
